Introducing Coloured Pencils

Introducing Coloured Pencils

February 05, 2018

So yes, modern coloured pencils have been around since the early 20th century but they're brand new to me! I have to admit that I'm finding the feel of the pencil in my hand oddly satisfying. Each drawing may take WAAAYYYYY longer than a similar sized watercolour, but I do have more time to think about each stroke as I lay it down on the paper. I can also correct errors more successfully than with watercolour. (You would be shocked by the number of paintings I curse at and rip to shreds!!).

I've become a bit of a hoarder when it comes to art supplies in the past few years. I have draws full of all kinds of mediums in my studio. What's amazing about coloured pencils is the huge number of brands and colours available. So far I've been enjoying Faber-Castell polychromos, Derwent Coloursoft and Prismacolor Premier. I know I'll be buying more in the coming months, I admit it. Addiction satisfied.

I keep trying different papers to see what I like best and I'm getting closer to finding a winner. At least my art supply addiction means I already have dozens of papers with different textures to experiment on.

I'd love to hear what you think about my new art. Drop me a line with your comments.

Hi! I just left a message on your Etsy site but didn’t know if you actually still had it. I bought a print from you and love it! I don’t know if you do this or not but, if I send you a picture of my rabbit could you make a picture of him?

Thanks,
Beth
